1. What is a proxy account?
A proxy account allows
access to the Library Electronic Resources normally restricted by UCHC
IP , e.g., UCHC
Electronic Journals, Electronic
Textbooks, and Databases
from off-campus sites.
2. Who is eligible for a
proxy account?
Accounts on the proxy
server can be obtained by faculty, staff, and students at the University
of Connecticut Health Center; and faculty, staff, graduate students, and
some categories of undergraduate students from University of Connecticut.
Unfortunately, our licensing agreements with publishers prevent us from
making remote access to our online resources available to other library
patrons even if you have a 14-digit barcode. Check with our circulation
department if you have any question about eligibility at (860) 679-3808.
3. How do I obtain a proxy
account?
If you haven't
registered to be a library patron, come to the library circulation desk
with your valid UCHC ID or use appropriate
form as available online to get a library barcode. If you've already
registered with the library, you should have the barcode on the back of
your UCHC ID. Make sure your library registration and UCHC badge are up
to date. Library expiration dates vary depending on your patron group.
The proxy server password will be your 14-digit barcode number. Please
allow at least three business days to get your account set up.
Check with our circulation department if you have any questions at (860)
679-3808. More details.
4.
When I visit the library website, why do I get "Cache access denied"
message?
This means that you
have configured your browser for our previous proxy service. Please remove
previous proxy settings.
5. Do I need to
configure my browser?
No. With the advent
of our new EZProxy server, it is no longer necessary to have your browser
configured for our proxy server. If you have configured the browser in
the past, you need to remove the configurations.
6. What browsers
are supported?
EZProxy is browser
independent, i.e., any browser including browsers on PDAs should work
with EZproxy.
7. Do I have to
log in every time I want to access resources?
Sessions will last
for approximately two hours and then you will be asked to log in
again. If you exit your browser or shutdown your computer at any time
you will be asked to log in again.
8.
Why do I get a message "That library barcode was incorrect"
when I try to logon?
The
proxy server password is your 14-digit library barcode number without
spaces. If you just registered for the proxy
account, please
allow at least three business days to activate your account. Make
sure your library registration and UCHC badge are up to date. Library
expiration dates vary depending on your patron group. Please
check with our circulation department at (860) 679-3808
9. I created some
bookmarks for UCHC Library resources. Now I cannot access them from home.
Bookmarks created
with the previous version of the proxy server may not work. The restricted
databases or ejournal need to be accessed by following links on the Library
website. For example, the URL for Uptodate on the library website is "http://online.uchc.edu/login?url=http://libdatabase.uchc.edu/databases/linktracker.asp?ID=171".
You can also paste
"http://online.uchc.edu/login?url=" in front of the original
url e.g., "http://online.uchc.edu/login?url=http://www.utdol.com/enterprise.asp?r=/enterprise.asp&bhcp=1&app=utdol".
10. Can I access
UCHC Library resources from UCHC affiliated hospitals?
Yes. With the new
proxy server you should be able to access UCHC Library resources from
UCHC affiliated hospitals which have firewall issues.
11.
Can I access full-text electronic resources within the online catalog?
Yes. Go to the Library
Catalog on the Library Website. Click on the red button which says
"Off-Campus Proxy". Click on Libary Catalog link. you will be
