do I simply log on to the proxy server? After you finish the configuration,
simply go to http://library.uchc.edu. If you were already there before your
correct configuration, reload the http://library.uchc.edu page. The username/password
box should pop up as follows. Your 14-digit barcode should be entered as both
username and password. If you don't close your browser, you should not be asked
for username/password for individual ejournals or databases. Netscape Internet Explorer I know how to configure my browser. What

Confirm that you entered the barcode at the right place.
The 14-digit barcode should
be entered as both username and password in the following username/password
box instead of username/password for individual journals or databases. This
box should pop up after you finish the configuration and when you first go to or reload
http://library.uchc.edu or any ejournals or databases restricted by UCHC
IP. If you are using Internet Explorer you might not get this box. Please see

Confirm
that you have configured your browser correctly.
Go to http://library.uchc.edu/proxy.html#config
and review the instructions for your browser. The smallest incorrect character
from the proxy URL (address) will cause problems.
Please remember that you
must physically configure the browser on your PC, simply reviewing the instructions
makes no changes to your PC and the changes cannot be made remotely.
Confirm that you have
entered the correct barcode.
Make sure that you
have not made any typographical errors and that you are entering your current
barcode, not one you may have had in the past. You might want to copy the barcode
from the username box (CTL+C) and paste to the password box (CTL+V).
Confirm that your barcode
has not expired.
Check your ID tag.
If you have passed the expiration date on the ID tag, you must contact Public
Safety to obtain a new ID. Then come to the Circulation Desk at the Library
to have your barcode information updated.
If your ID does not appear to have expired, contact the Library’s Circulation Desk at 860 679-2839 to confirm that your account is still active.
If you have just acquired a barcode or have been assigned a new one, allow one or two working days for the information to be updated at the proxy server.
I have configured my browser correctly but when I clicked on OK, I receive a message that I cannot load the proxy script.
You may be at an institution that uses its own proxy to access the Internet. Your browser cannot be configured for a second proxy. Please contact the network administrator at that institution for instructions.
I have configured my browser correctly but when I clicked on OK, I receive a message that configuration failed.
If you are at a public institution, e.g., a public library or a computer lab, there might be some kind of protection on their internet browsers so that people cannot make any changes. Please contact the system administrator at that institution.
I use Internet Explorer and the box to enter my Library barcode stopped (or never started) popping up.
If you use Internet Explorer and do not receive the following box:

The solution is to download Netscape from http://wp.netscape.com/download/archive.html. Please Note: Netscape7.X is not recommended. Please download the previous versions Please install the program and then configure the Netscape browser for proxy access. Your proxy setup from Internet Explorer will not carry over for Netscape.
Some ejournal or database links trigger the box to enter my Library barcode but some don't
Please go to http://library.uchc.edu
and make sure the box to enter your Library barcode pops up. This should allow
you to access the ejournals/databases which do not trigger the box. It would
be appreciated if you can report the links that do not trigger
the box at http://library.uchc.edu/comments/problemrpt.html.
How often should I be prompted for my barcode when using Library resources?
You should only be prompted for your barcode once at the beginning of your session when you attempt to access Library materials. Each time you close your browser and restart it, then attempt to access Library materials, you will be prompted for your barcode. If the Username/password is asked for each individual journal or database restrict by IP, your proxy configuration might not be right.Do
I need to reconfigure my browser every time I use the proxy?
No.
As long as you don’t remove or change the information, it will remain in your
browser for future sessions.
I
have accessed an ejournal through proxy but I’m having difficulty viewing, downloading
or printing an article.
If
it is an article in PDF format, make sure you have Adobe Reader installed on
your PC. This can be downloaded for free at http://www.adobe.com.
After downloading, please install the Reader, downloading the program does not
install it.
If you use Internet Explorer, please be aware the some ejournals work better with Netscape and vice versa. If one browser gives you some difficulties, try the other.
