Basic Palm Configuration Click for Windows-based PDAs
On the Palm's main menu, click on Prefs
At Preferences, choose the Network screen from the pull-down menu and make the following entries:
Service: Any except Windows RAS
User Name: Leave blank
Connection: IR to PC/Handheld
Line up the infrared on your PDA with the Clarinet EtherIR infrared device prior to attempting to connect. The infrared beam emits from the arrowhead-shaped device. The range is from approximately 3 inches to 3 feet
Configuration for Web Based Services
Because each web based service is different, the configurations for updating these services will vary and must be set within the software for that particular service. Prior to attempting to update a service not listed below at the syncing station, you may want to consult the service's web page for information on proper configuration.
Initial installation of these services must be done through a computer, with updates available through the infrared syncing station.
AvantGoThis is the procedure you'll follow each time you sync AvantGo, if you choose to update AvantGo only.
On the Palm's main menu, click on AG Connect
Check Update During Next Sync:
Click on Sync This Server
If you use Mobile Link
Click on Mobile Link
Click on Modem Sync
On the Palm's main menu, click on AutoUpdate***
On the AutoUpdate page click on Modem Sync
***Note - On the AutoUpdate page, the ePocrates server information should be preconfigured according to your version of ePocrates. If it is not preconfigured, you can get information about configuration by going back to the computer where the original installation was completed, go to the ePocrates support page and view their FAQ re: AutoUpdate servers.
You can configure the HotSync software on your computer and Palm to allow you to sync with your desktop computer from the infrared syncing station. You would use this function to update information in programs such as Outlook Mail, Calendar, etc. Besides the configuration changes, your desktop PC must be turned on and the HotSync program active (showing in your System Tray) in order to successfully complete the sync.
Compatibility InformationAt Your PC
You must configure the computer's HotSync software to allow for a network sync.
Right click on your HotSync icon in the System Tray and put a check mark next to Network.
In some versions of HotSync you must also specify which profile may sync via the network.
Right click on your HotSync icon in the System Tray, select Setup.
Select the Network tab and put a check mark next to the user(s) that are allowed to HotSync to the computer via the network.
If you don't know your computer's IP number, you'll need to have it to configure your pda in the next step. You can find it by clicking on the TCP/IP Settings button on this Network tab.
On Your PDA
On the Palm's main menu, click on HotSync
Using the Menu pull-down button, you'll enter the following information for each item under Options:
Modem Sync Prefs: Network
LANSync Prefs: LANSync
Primary PC Setup: Only need to fill in your IP address (see At Your PC) at Primary PC Address
Conduit Setup: This determines which programs will be updated, uncheck any that shouldn't update.
Connection Setup: select IR to PC/Handheld
At the IR Station

On the Palm's main menu, click on HotSync
Make sure that Modem is chosen
Click on the HotSync icon***
***Note - Remember that your desktop computer must be on and the HotSync active to successfully sync.
The Clarinet EthIR device is compatible with the following Palm and Palm OS devices:
Palm organizers IIIx, V, Vx, OS 3.3+, *VII OS 3.2+, IBM WorkPad, Sony, Handspring (Requires Palm OS3.3+)
* Palm VII requires an IR enhancement module from Palm Computing. Go to www.palm.com for more information.
