UnipriNT - Charging for Printing
Why UnipriNT?
Access to the full-text of journal
articles and textbooks, now available online, has increased the amount
of printing done at the Library's public access computers.
Costs related to paper and toner have escalated since users are printing
the full-text of the article/chapter from the computer workstations rather
than photocopying the item. To bring balance back into the system
and control costs and abuse, the Library has installed the user-friendly
UnipriNT system. With UnipriNT, the user will name and send their
job to a dedicated printer where, using their UCHC Vendacard, they will
get the hardcopy. Library users can also email the information or
download it to a diskette.
How does UnipriNT work?
More detailed instructions will be
available at each workstation and the printing station. At the workstation,
when the print function is selected in a program, you will be prompted
to name the print job. This name identifies your job for future printing.
If you choose not to print, you may cancel the job at this point. Your
job will be queued at the print station for three hours. You may print
each job individually or you may continue working and print your jobs as
a group later. Please remember that your print job will be automatically
deleted after three hours.
When you wish to print, take your
Vendacard to the printing station. You may click on Release Print Job and
when prompted, insert your Vendacard into the card reader. A screen listing
all the queued print jobs will appear. Once you highlight your print job(s),
information regarding the amount remaining on your card and the cost of
the job(s) will be displayed. You may click on the Print button to begin
printing. As each job is processed, the card reader will beep. When you
are finished printing, click on Exit to release your Vendacard from the
card reader. If you decide not to print your job(s) they will automatically
be deleted in three hours and no action is necessary on your part.
When will the UnipriNT system
be implemented?
The Library will begin charging for
printing from our public access workstations on August 14, 2000.
UCHC Vendacards are available from the Vendacard dispenser located by the
Circulation Desk. UCHC faculty and staff can use the same Vendacards
issued by Reprographics to access the UnipriNT system.
How else can I save my Library
research?
If you would like to avoid print
charges in the Library, you can save your documents to disk and take them
with you to print in your office or home. For your convenience, the
Library sells formatted 3.5" floppy diskettes at the Circulation desk for
$2.00 each. You can also use your own diskettes. Database
search results can be emailed.
