A consumer education consortium concerned with food, nutrition, the environment and health. Goal is to publicize nutrition and health information that is scientifically sound.

American Dietetic Association
Nutrition news, fact sheets on popular topics, bibliography for the public, and links to other nutrition related sites.

American Heart Association
Select the "Getting healthy" link at the top of the page for information about good nutrition, weight management, cholesterol and heart disease, heart healthy recipes, nutrition for kids, and other related topics.

American Institute for Cancer Research
Believes that most cancers can be prevented through dietary changes. Articles on obesity, pesticides in food, exercise, plant-based diets, phytochemicals.

Center for Science in the Public Interest
An education and advocacy organization that focuses on improving the safety and nutritional quality of our food supply.

Food and Nutrition Information Center - U.S. Dept. of Agriculture
Learn about food safety, dietary supplements, guidelines for healthy eating, and other important nutrition topics.

Mayo Clinic - Diet and Nutrition
Information on nutrition basics, supplements, weight management, and a virtual cookbook are all featured on this site. Sign up for their online newsletter of weekly information updates.

  MEDLINEplus - Food, Nutrition and Metabolism
From the National Library of Medicine consumer site, information on nutrition related topics including eating disorders, cholesterol, obesity, general nutrition, and more.  There are links to summaries of nutrition related articles appearing in scientific and medical journals.

Nutrition Source - Harvard School of Public Health

This comprehensive site offers timely information on diet and nutrition for clinicians, health professionals, and the public. A useful section helps the user interpret nutrition information in the news. Other sections answer common questions such as: "What should I really eat?" "Is a low carbohydrate diet better?", "How much protein do I need each day?", "Should I take vitamins?".

Aim for a Healthy Weight
Developed by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, this site offers information for patients and health professionals on maintaining a healthy weight. Tools are provided to assess your risk for certain diseases affected by excess weight. Advice is offered on how to cut down on fat and the importance of staying physically active.

Body Mass Index
Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women. Calculate your BMI and view the table to see if you are overweight.

Diet Watch
Monitor your weight and nutrition day-to-day and communicate with others via this web site. There is a fee for this service. You can see what the site has to offer by taking a guided tour and then entering on a guest pass. Sign up for their free online newsletters.

Shape Up America
Learn to manage your weight through good nutrition and physical activity. The interactive CyberKitchen helps you plan a personal daily menu to help you lose weight and offers recipes and advice on shopping. There is a monthly fee of $10.00 for their services.

Weight Control Information Network
Information on binge eating, gastric surgery for severe obesity, physical activity and weight control, helping your overweight child, weight cycling, and more.
