The Friends Association was started in 1994 in order to provide an opportunity for library patrons and supporters to maintain library resources and services at the high quality level that has come to be expected. The Friends help to continue the library's strategic role in fulfilling the University of Connecticut Health Center's mission of education, patient care, research and community service.

Members of the Friends receive two newsletters: the L.M. Stowe Library Newsletter and the newsletter from the Library's consumer health information program, Healthnet. The Friends sponsor an annual reception and lecture which is scheduled at the end of the spring semester.
