UConn Medical School Requirement

All third year medical students are required to purchase PDAs to enrich their education. Recommended software is made available to all third year medical students and in many cases to all Health Center personnel free of charge. This may be downloaded at home and installed through the main Library's web site at home or at the CEC PDA Sync Station. If you need assistance with downloading and installing programs to your PDA you may speak with CEC Staff for assistance. It is highly recommended that medical students purchase the PDAs recommended by the School of Medicine.

Recommended PDAs

Each year the Computer Education Center (CEC) staff tests out PDAs and their functionality with the recommended curricular software. CEC staff only tests and recommends PDAs and cannot test out Smartphones because we would not only be recommending a device but also also a cell phone service. If you feel that you "must" have a Smartphone instead of just a PDA then please read through the section of our site here that covers some of things to be aware of before purchasing a Smartphone.

Recommended software
The Lyman Maynard Stowe Library provides subscriptions to curricular medical PDA databases and software for students and Health Center personnel. The curricular related software listed below is available to students and Health Center employees free of charge. This software is highly recommended by the School of Medicine and in some cases is used in classes. This software is useful for all UCHC students and employees in the medical field. If you need assistance with downloading and installing the PDA software below you may contact CEC staff for assistance. Note: This software can also be downloaded from the library's PDA resources page.

Dynamed	Dynamed is a point of care reference application. (You will need to aquire a code before downloading and installing the program - UCHC staff and students only). Essential Evidence Plus	Essential Evidence Plus is a Patient-Oriented Evidence that Matters database available right at the point of care. More information on Essential Evidence Plus may be found here.	Download Instructions
Lexi-Select	Lexi-Select is a Drug Database that includes in depth information on Drugs, Drug Interactions, Medical Calculations, etc. More information on Lexi-Select may be found here.	Download Instructions
Shots	Shots is a free handheld childhood immunization schedule database. This application also includes an adult catch-up schedule as well as information on the various vaccines. More information on Shots may be found here.	Download Instructions
Student Experience Log (for UCHC students)	The UCHC Student Experience Log allows you to record your patient interactions on your PDA and then later upload them by syncing your PDA. Note: You will need to enter your Blackboard login and password to download the installer Mobile 5 Users: Install this program first Updates: If a new version of the software is released you need to remove the previous version before installing the newer version. Please follow the "Removal Instructions" for information on removing the Student Log off of your PDA. Before removing the software please make sure to sync your data.
